A Clinical Review of Pancreatic Pseudocysts - An analysis of 27 cases -



Abstract
Pancreatic pseudocyst is often defined as localized fluid collection of pancreatic secretions in cystic structures that lack an epithelial lining and occur as a result of surrounding tissues walling off and containing a pancreatic duct
disruption.
This
is retrospective clinical analysis of 27 cases of pancreatic pseudocyst who were treated surgically at the Department of Surgery, St. Columban's Hospital from October 1985 to July 1995.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) The ratio of male to female was 5.7:1 and the highest incidence was in 5th decade.
2) Pancreatitis was most common etiologic disease of pancreatic pseudocyst(44.4%).
3) The most common clinical symptoms and sighs were abdominal pain (88.8%) and abdominal tenderness(814%).
4) The roentgenologic study of CT sean, ultrasonography were a significant aid in making the diagnosis.
5) The site of the pseudocyst was body in 2 cases, tail in 7 cases, head and tail in 9 cases, and other in 9 cases.
6) Leukocytosis was the most common abnormal laboratory finding and increased serum alk-p was found in 55.5%.
7) Some of the preoperative complications were ileus (10 cases), ascites(9 cases) and pleural effusion(9 cases).
8) The performed operations were excision in 1 case, external drainage in 9 cases, internal drainage in 12 cases.
9) Postoperative complications, such as infection of pseudocyst, cutaneous fistula and pulmonary complication, were common after external drainage.
